Nancy has been an artist throughout her life, beginning with art competitions at age 8 and continuing her artistic journey. With a strong educational foundation from renowned artists, a BFA degree, and a Master's in education, coupled with her global travels and experience teaching art at high school and college levels, she's well-versed in a wide range of artistic mediums.
In her artwork, Nancy aims to convey an uplifting spirit, a touch of mystery, and a sense of belonging. She believes these elements are vital in creating a harmonious atmosphere in one's home, a sanctuary away from the chaos of the world.
The collection showcased at the Tame Rabbit focuses exclusively on her digital art, inspired by her deep affection for Northeast Ohio, where she and her husband, Jim, settled in 1998. The exhibition features her photographs and what she refers to as "Altered Realities," compositions crafted from multiple photos, layered with textures, and sometimes including hand-painted or drawn elements. Every piece is meticulously crafted by Nancy herself, without the use of AI. Interestingly, these Altered Realities often demand more time and effort than her oil paintings.
Nancy takes pride in the quality of her artworks. They are printed using pigment inks, known for their longevity compared to dye-based inks. When labeled as Giclee (pronounced "zhee-clay"), the prints are produced on cotton rag canvas, while her other works are printed on high-quality luster photo paper. Giclee printing involves a minimum of 300 dots per inch, employing pigment inks, and utilizes a 12-color printer. The prints are made on archival paper or canvas composed of cotton rag, making them more durable and resistant to color fading, with a lifespan extending over 200 years.
